Your Guide to a Healthy Winter - Family Wellness Tips

Dear Reader,

As the chill of winter approaches, it’s time to nurture the health of ourselves and our families.

At my place, it’s a familiar scene: my husband tucked in bed recuperating, while I, armed with a box of tissues, prepare lunches and keep the household running. Some of us know this scenario all too well.

Here are some strategies that have transformed my family life, especially during the sniffle season:

  • Hearty Meals: The slow cooker has become a cherished companion, simmering immune-boosting stews and soups that warm us from the inside out.
  • Teamwork Time: I’ve learned to ask for help, getting the whole family involved in daily tasks. It’s amazing how meal prep becomes less of a chore and more of a joy when everyone pitches in.
  • Chore Chart Fun: We’ve introduced a chore chart, which has been a game-changer. It’s not just about keeping the house tidy; it’s about teaching responsibility and teamwork.
  • Routine Rundown: We’ve simplified our routines, focusing on what truly needs to be done, and it’s lifted a weight off our shoulders.
  • Click & Collect: Online shopping has been a lifesaver, ensuring we stay stocked up on essentials without braving the cold.
  • Work Flexibility: On days when the kids or I aren’t feeling our best, the flexibility of me being able to work from home has been invaluable.
  • Me Time: Don't forget the importance of self-care. A quiet cup of tea or a few pages of a book can be incredibly rejuvenating.

Fitness doesn’t take a backseat in winter, either. Instead of my usual weight routine, I might opt for a pilates session, or if the weather permits, a brisk walk. It’s about adapting and finding what works for you.

And to add a bit of warmth to your winter evenings, here’s a simple Slow Cooker Chicken Casserole recipe that’s a hit in my household:

Ingredients:

  • 4 chicken breasts,
  • 3 large carrots, diced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups of chicken stock
  • 1 cup of cream
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup of frozen peas

Instructions: 1. Place the chicken, carrots, and onion into the slow cooker. 2. In a bowl, mix the chicken stock, cream, mustard, thyme, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the chicken and vegetables. 3. Cook on low for 6 hours. 4. In the last 30 minutes of cooking, add the frozen peas. 5. Serve hot and enjoy the hearty goodness!

Stay warm!

Dear Reader, We all know how crazy mornings can be, especially when you’re trying to get everyone out the door on time. One way to make mornings a bit easier is by meal prepping for your kids. It’s simpler to just grab something that’s been prepared and is not processed. Plus, it’s healthier! We need to ensure that we’re not feeding our kids too much sugar or salt, not to mention the other ingredients that are included in processed foods to make them taste better or last longer. With that in...
